Healthy Summer Snacks

Last updated 7 years ago

Is your snacking getting out of control this summer? It can be easy to over-indulge, especially with all the summertime activities, vacations, baseball games, and lounging on the beach. While I always say it is okay to indulge every once in a while, letting it become an every weekend (or every day) occurrence will surely cause some unwanted weight gain. Here are some healthy options for summer snacking:

• Watermelon with low fat feta (mix 1 cup of cubed watermelon with 1 ounce of feta)

• Caprese salad (1/2 tomato sliced thin, 1 oz mozzarella cheese sliced, 4-5 basil leaves – top tomato slices with cheese and basil, drizzle with olive oil and a touch of salt and pepper)

• 1 law fat string cheese and 10 whole grain crackers • Whole wheat pita with 2 tbsp hummus

• Non-fat yogurt mixed with fresh fruit and granola

• 8 large shrimp and 2 Tbsp cocktail sauce

• 1 Tbsp almonds with 2 Tbsp dried cranberries (or other dried fruit)

• ½ cup of edamame

• 1 cup baby carrots and 2 Tbsp hummus

• 1 ½ cup strawberries and 3 Tbsp fat free whip topping
